Introduction

Pitch

Devastated by pollution and an arid climate, the Earth no longer has access to drinking water, except for one City whose members have discovered how to get it. Valdo, an authoritarian and charismatic governor, protects this fortress with an iron fist. But Vince, an unaccepted city-dweller, finds himself on the outside, discovering a world he’d never imagined. Between initiatory journey and citizen’s revolt, this dynamic tale sheds light on our relationship with ecology, and offers a final denouement in the last act.

Creative Vision

Told in a light-hearted tone, the story is driven by strong characters with distinct personalities. International audiences will identify with the protagonists, who are stylishly presented, much like comic-book heroes. Drawing inspiration from Mad Max and Dune, as well as Sergio Leone’s Westerns, this unique universe offers vast cinematic potential.

Themes et Messages

LOST WATER is an epic adventure that explores the fate of our civilizations, a universal theme across cultures, from desert metropolises to global capitals. The story tackles sensitive subjects without being preachy. The underlying messages, shared throughout the narrative, challenge us, among other things, on access to water, a resource many take for granted but which is already lacking in some regions. Fundamentally, this plot questions our future. Are we reaching the end of a cycle? Must we reinvent ourselves?

About the author

Actor and theater director Michael Schmit brings his passion to the big screen. Writing, his second love, allows him to develop a comprehensive and confident artistic vision. Trained at the Cours Florent drama school, among others, he honed his skills under Jack Waltzer, the American coach who has notably trained Dustin Hoffman, Sigourney Weaver, and Sharon Stone. He began his career in improvisational comedy, then directed and acted in several successful plays that ran for multiple seasons. Building on this stage experience, he ventured into multimedia, both in front of and behind the camera. He writes, directs, and stars in numerous award-winning short films. In parallel, he develops his physical expression through combat sports and high-intensity physical activity. Sensitive to the climate and its uncertainties, he finished writing his first feature film LOST WATER in 2025, a post-apocalyptic story that questions our relationship to ecology, the meaning of survival, class struggle, disinformation and environmental migration, topics that are so topical and will resonate with a wide audience.

On a devastated Earth where water is power, a city dweller rises up against a tyrannical governor and discovers the dark secrets that are shaking the last civilization

Sets and Teaser

Surrounded by a solid technical team, we filmed a teaser to illustrate the atmosphere. It’s a powerful scene centered around four main characters. We designed meticulous sets and costumes to create a post-apocalyptic world. Mission accomplished: the action takes place in the middle of the desert, even though we filmed in the Île-de-France region!

Filming and Budget

We are in talks with Kasbah Films to shoot all or part of the film in Morocco. This Moroccan production company boasts numerous credits, such as Men in Black: International with Chris Hemsworth and Liam Neeson, and Beirut with Jon Hamm and Rosamund Pike. We have agreed to apply for funding from the Moroccan Cinema Center (CCM) through them, aiming to secure €400,000 in addition to a 30% rebate, a 20% VAT reduction, and the elimination of social security contributions for local technicians. This funding would be in addition to that provided by the CNC (National Center for Cinema and the Moving Image), regional authorities, and other sources. We also plan to film on location, such as in Aït Ben Haddou, where costs are significantly lower than in studios like Atlas in Ouarzazate. These combined advantages would considerably reduce the budget. While not mandatory, this option, with its many benefits, is being considered.

Synopsis

It is worth noting that in this epic, 3 factions stand out: the CITY DWELLERS with VALDO, LICIA and VINCE, the VILLAGERS with TAMMY and the TITHERS with STAN. We will focus on the journeys of these key characters.

Future, unspecified era. Devastated by pollution and an arid climate, Earth is dry and hostile. A handful of men accidentally discover how to produce water using an unexpected method. They settle in a fortified City, of which VALDO is the Governor, and where all the CITY DWELLERS have access to water through this process. VINCE, a poorly integrated soldier, seeks to prove himself within the army. During a sortie outside the walls, VINCE is lost and wounded. He carries the key to the City around his neck. Witnessing an attack, he comes to the aid of TAMMY, a young VILLAGER who guides him through the ruins. The two arrive in a village where STAN, a mysterious stranger, is tied up and being beaten. VINCE decides to free him, unaware that he is a TITHER, a group of vagrants who abduct VILLAGERS. STAN escapes with the key, and VINCE decides to return to the City to warn Governor VALDO. But on his way back, VINCE realizes that STAN and VALDO are connected. Disturbed, he goes to warn TAMMY. As the water production destabilizes the City, VALDO establishes a reign of terror. TAMMY and VINCE manage to capture STAN. Thanks to the key, they infiltrate the City’s underground. What they discover there will shatter them… What follows is a near-initiatory journey that will push the protagonists to transcend themselves. Humanity is put to the test: is nature reclaiming its rights?

This intentionally partial summary does not reveal the origin of the water or the final outcome, in order to preserve the surprise for future readers.
